Changes planned for iconic Bestwood clock tower landmark

Plans have been unveiled to make changes to an iconic landmark in Bestwood. The Clocktower building on Park Road is a Grade II listed building with a history dating back 150 years.

Originally designed as the offices of the Bestwood Coal and Iron Company, it remained in the hands of the National Coal Board until 1985. Last year, it was put on the market for £495,000.

The building comprises 11 office suites, parking, toilet and kitchen facilities. Plans have now been lodged to make several changes to the interior of the historic site.

The proposals, submitted to Gedling Borough Council on May 2, include dividing the existing office space into smaller rooms. A new kitchen would also be created on the ground floor, with the current one being relocated into an existing office space.

Guarding for the exitsting staircase would also be replaced if the plans are approved. Gedling Borough Council will now rule on them at a later date.
