ScotRail has confirmed that is preparing an emergency timetable as it experiences major disruption across the rail network due to recent weather events and the impact of the Stonehaven tragedy.
They are asking train users to avoid travel on some affected routes over the coming days, and that, if they must travel by train, to check their journey and follow the coronavirus travel advice.
Three of the routes affect services in and out of Glasgow, in particular, Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk, Glasgow to Inverness/Perth and Glasgow to Aberdeen.
The changes to these services are as follows:
Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk High
ScotRail are anticipating disruption to these services for a number of weeks following damage to overhead power lines and embankments being damaged by flooding.
Customers can travel between Glasgow Queen Street to Falkirk Grahamston, with a rail replacement service in operation between Falkirk Grahamston and Edinburgh.
A shuttle bus will transport customers from Falkirk High to Falkirk Grahamston stations. You can also use the Glasgow Queen Street low level service to Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate, or the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh via Shotts service.
Glasgow to Inverness via Perth
Due to severe flooding at Perth station and surrounding junctions between Perth and Pitlochry, services from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness are disrupted. Rail replacement coaches will be provided between Perth and Pitlochry and we anticipate this section of the line on 14 August.
Glasgow to Aberdeen
Services are disrupted by an ongoing investigation into the train derailment at Stonehaven yesterday. Trains from Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh will terminate at Dundee, where rail replacement coaches will operate between Dundee and Aberdeen.
An anticipated date for reopening the route has not been confirmed.
