Changes announced for Nottingham Forest Ladies as part of Evangelos Marinakis' 'one club' approach

Nottingham Forest Ladies will be renamed Nottingham Forest Women from the start of next month.

Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis last week announced his intention to increase his financial contribution to the women’s team, outlining a “one club” approach.

And as well as the name change, from July 1, the team’s logo will become the traditional Forest badge, removing the word “Ladies”, to bring them in line with the rest of the club.

A statement from the club said: “Previously known as Forest Ladies, the club was formed in 1990 and has been one of the most historic clubs in women’s football.

“Largely operated by volunteer administration and coaching staff, the club has been able to capitalize on the local support in Nottinghamshire to maintain its status within competitive women’s football.

“With such a rich history behind it, the club is now entering an exciting new period of progress both on and off the pitch and is anticipating a bright future over the next few years.

“To support the progress of the women’s team, the club recently appointed Lee Billiard to the role of general manager and the search is now underway for a full-time manager to help continue their progress on the field.”

Newly-appointed general manager Billiard said: "This is another positive step by the football club to acknowledge the women’s programme as part of the ‘one-club’ mentality and bring the programme up-to-date and more in line from an equality standpoint.

“The history of Forest Ladies will always remain and we will be doing certain activations over the coming months to acknowledge the club's history and those who helped create it over the years.”
