Change UK forced to dump ANOTHER candidate over 'crazy black whore' tweet

Change UK has been forced to dump its second EU elections candidate in less than 24 hours.

Joseph Russo, the Party's lead candidate in Scotland, stepped down as a candidate after a string of offensive tweets sent from his account were revealed by journalist Alasdair Clark.

A 2012 tweet from his account read: "Black women scare me. I put this down to be[ing] chased through Amsterdam by a crazy black whore..."

Another tweet later the same year referred to the arrest of Gary Glitter on historical child sexual abuse and attempted rape charges, on which he was later convicted.

The tweet read: "The arrest of Gary Glitter smacks of the Police targeting low hanging fruit."

MMA fighter resigns as Change UK candidate over 'Romanian pickpockets' comments

A Change UK spokesperson said: "We have been made aware of several offensive Twitter posts. We have discussed this with Joseph Russo and it has been agreed that he will stand down and is no longer on our list of candidates.”

Mr Russo has now deleted his Twitter account.

Mr Russo's candidacy was announced by the Party, formed out of the Independent Group of MPs, following a high-profile launch of its European election campaign yesterday.

Last night, MMA fighter and former Tory Ali Sadjady was forced to step down as a candidate over tweets suggesting he would support Brexit if it stopped Romanian pickpockets.

He was a candidate for just over eight hours before resigning after tweets resurfaced from 2017.

A tweet from Mr Sadjady's account branded Mayor of London Sadiq Khan a "joke of a man" for advocating a second Brexit referendum.

Another tweet read: "To those petitioning for a second EU referendum, don't you believe in democracy or does it not apply when things don't go your way?"

A spokesperson for Change UK said: "Following discussions, Ali Sadjady has reflected on his inappropriate tweet from 2017 and agreed to stand down from the list of potential candidates."
