Change to Asda school uniform praised by parents who say it's an 'excellent idea'

Asda is being praised for a big change it has made to its children's school uniforms.

The supermarket has launched a new range of uniforms for kids who have specific or sensory-sensitive needs such as autism.

The Easy On Easy Wear range includes clothing with softer seams and no labels with many parents saying the new collection is an "excellent idea".

Asda posted a launch video for the uniforms on its Facebook account and it quickly attracted 2,300 positive reactions and more than 550 comments.

The video caption read: "We're the first UK supermarket to sell clothing designed for children with specific or sensory-sensitive needs such as autism.

"George's new Easy On Easy Wear range replaces fiddly buttons with easy close fastenings, uses softer thread on seams, and has care instructions printed on the fabric rather than using labels. Elasticated waistbands make trousers easy to put on, and ensure they are extra-comfortable too.

"Tom Purser, Head of Campaigns at the National Autistic Society, said: 'Parents often tell us how sensory sensitivities can mean that autistic children struggle with clothing, like an itchy label, a scratchy seam or an uncomfortable fabric. Finding clothing their children can wear can make shopping for clothes time consuming and stressful. Many parents have to scour specialist shops for everyday items that other families are able to buy easily. So, it makes a real difference when a major retailer takes this on.' "

Many parents were quick to thank Asda for the new uniforms, reports the MEN.

Samantha wrote: "Love this! My daughter isn't ASD however she has a lot of sensory issues with clothing, I'm looking forward to having a look at these! She really HATES tight waistbands and has real issues with seams in socks. Hoping these clothes come in handy!"

Charlotte said: "This is great. As a parent, I've lost count how many tops I've ruined by trying to get the sewn-in labels out!"

Jackie added: "Brilliant Asda well done about time someone did something for autistic children."

Mary agreed: "Excellent idea, thank you so much Asda, this will make school days far less traumatic."

Other shoppers thought these changes should even be introduced into adult clothing ranges.

Chantal wrote: "I reckon that would be a sigh of relief for anyone who ever struggled with scratchy labels or itchy stitching. Let's make these improvements the standard for all clothes."

Denise added: "Brilliant idea now we just need something for older children and adults."

May commented: "Now the kids are getting this hope you can do it for older people."

Pauline agreed: "Removing labels from all clothes would be great. My autistic son is an adult. I hate labels too because they are scratchy and itchy. Perhaps you could think about that too Asda."
