NAGPUR: Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavhan said he has requested Congress high command to change party colleague Mukul Wasnik’s Rajya Sabha nomination to Maharashtra, instead of the current Rajasthan. Interacting with mediapersons during an informal chat, Chavhan said that Wasnik being from Maharashtra would be in a better position to provide MP funds for local development.
“Nominations can still be changed as deadline ends on Tuesday. If he (Wasnik) files nomination from Maharashtra, it will be really good,” said Chavhan.
A part of the G-23, who had sent a letter to Sonia Gandhi on the need for organization reform, Chavhan said the contents of the letter were misunderstood. “We were not able to meet each other due to pandemic. So the letter was sent to suggest the way forward, but it got leaked” said Chavhan.
Chavhan, earlier part of the trusted inner circle of Congress, said it is time for the grand old party to initiate the third front. “Regional parties may be strong in their backyard, but it is the Congress which has pan-India presence. So Congress must take the initiative and build the third front,” said Chavhan. Upon the leadership issue, Chavhan said that the new president will takes charge after party polls.
He even added that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) should contest the local body polls together. “If you want to keep BJP out, then it’s best to have an alliance,” said Chavhan. He said that BJP has failed in controlling inflation and there is fear that India may fall into a Sri Lanka like debt crisis.
