Change at the helm of long-established Scottish boat dealers

A long established Scottish boat dealer and broker has been sold for an undisclosed six-figure sum.

Euroyachts, which was originally based on the Clyde in Glasgow city centre, has been sold to Swansea-based Yachts.co, as part of the latter's UK expansion plan.

The firm moved to the Largs Yacht Haven but while in the city centre its converted dockside crane was a distinctive feature of the city's waterfornt.

It was established in 1965 by Ronnie Scott, who was a pioneer of the pleasure craft market in the UK.

He introduced the affordable East German Folkboar to the UK market, making owning a yacht more accessible to many.

His regular business trips to East Germany saw Ronnie Scott being followed by an agent of the Stasi, the country's then secret police. Scott would go on to become good friends with 'his' Stasi agent.

The firm went on to become dealers of many popular brands of pleasure craft, but it is best known for its 40-plus year relationship with French manufacturer Jenneau, making them one of the longest-serving Jenneau dealers in the world.

Since 1994, the firm has been run by Ronnie Scott’s son, Angus, who has worked in the business since 1981.

It was Angus Scott who oversaw the move of the main premises from Glasgow City Centre to the first - and still only - custom built boat showroom of its scale in the UK, at Largs Yacht Haven. The firm also operates from Troon Yacht Haven.
