Chanel mania is coming to Sydney! In an unprecedented move, the luxury fashion house will re-stage its Resort 2027 collection — first debuted by creative director Matthieu Blazy in Biarritz, France in April — in Australia this November.
You know what that means: these little piggies are coming Down Under.
No other luxury fashion house has ever staged a show of this level in the country. While its normal for brands to stage collections — usually Resort — in different locations outside of the bi-annual Paris and Milan fashion weeks (think Gucci’s recent Times Square catwalk, Dior’s collection at LACMA in Los Angeles, or even Chanel‘s own Métiers d’Art in the NYC subway), one has never been held in Australia.
It marks the latest in Chanel’s love affair with, and investment into, the Australian market. Brisbane-born Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are both house ambassadors, Kylie Minogue lent her vocals (and made a cameo in) Chanel’s recent campaign video, and the largest Chanel in the country opened last year in Sydney, with another huge retail space set to open in Melbourne.
“After having been unveiled in Biarritz on 28th April, Matthieu Blazy’s first Cruise collection for Chanel will make a stopover on Thursday 5th November 2026 in Sydney – a city distinguished by its spectacular harbour, world-famous surf beaches, and vibrant cultural scene,” Chanel said in a statement.
“The choice of Sydney for the House’s first runway show in Australia resonates with the spirit of the Cruise collection, which is resolutely focused on movement and an elsewhere.”
The Resort 2027 collection drew heavily on seaside motifs: nautical stripes, raffia skirts and even swim caps, all set to the dreamy backdrop of France’s Basque Coast. It makes sense for this European summer collection to be re-staged in Sydney, a city obsessed with the beach and Euro summers in equal measure. Perhaps Matthieu was inspired by the Tamarama Beach swimmer who interrupted COMMAS’s Australian Fashion Week show last month?
The location for Chanel’s first ever Australian show has yet to be announced, but the shadow of Bondi Beach (or more specifically, the Icebergs pool) looms large. On the one hand, it’s iconic. On the other, every possible interpretation of the “fashion show at Bondi” has been done, and Chanel is not a brand that follows.
We’ll keep you updated. Either way, everyone say “Thank you, Matthieu.”
