Chandler Parsons, who was involved in an automobile accident last week that left him with a concussion and symptoms of whiplash and an associated cervical disc injury, remains in the first stage of concussion protocol, the Hawks announced Thursday. The forward is out indefinitely as a timetable for his return can't be set without first clearing concussion protocol.
The at-fault driver whose car collided with Parsons' car and one other vehicle was cited for failure to yield while turning left and DUI Less Safe. Parsons and the other driver involved were found to not be at fault.
In the time since the accident, which occurred Jan. 15, Parsons has not progressed to the next phase of the NBA's concussion protocol, which includes exertional challenges such as light conditioning. He's also still undergoing treatment for his other symptoms of whiplash and an associated cervical disc injury.
The Hawks announced that Parsons, his medical team and Emory Sports Medicine doctors agreed he should return home to California to continue recovering and rehabbing from the accident. That recovery process will still be overseen by the Hawks and Emory staff.
