Chandler Jones fined more than $10K for T-shirt

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones became the all-time franchise leader in sacks last weekend with his takedown of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. It was his sixth of the season and No. 67 of his Cardinals career.

After the sack, he celebrated by revealing a T-shirt honoring the players whose record he broke — Freddie Joe Nunn. Nunn died at the age of 59 last month.

It was a touching tribute for a Cardinals great.

However, that tribute will cost Jones.

According to Pro Football Talk, Jones was fined $10,300 for it, as it constituted a uniform violation.

This, of course, led to this reaction by Jones on social media:

Rules are naturally rules and players know what they are in for. However, this seems to be a case of “no good deed goes unpunished.”

It is dumb. Yes, it is a violation, but the league could choose to overlook an exception. If ever there was a moment to do it, it would be in this case.

Jones was not promoting himself and was not going against any league advertising partnerships. This was simply honoring a player from the past.

Will Jones ultimately view this as worth the fine? I would have to imagine that he will.
