Chandler Catanzaro has been in quite a few locker rooms in his career, but none compare to the Jets’.
Catanzaro was with the Buccaneers and Panthers last season. However, the love wasn’t the same with those two teams as it was during his first go around in New York in 2017.
“I’m super pumped to be here, super pumped for the opportunity, just walking in the building and having some familiar faces,” Catanzaro said, according to the team’s website. “I’ve walked into a couple new buildings the past few years, but this place has always been welcoming. I just love the people here, love the coaches and love my teammates that are here.”
The 28-year-old kicker was a free agent this offseason and could’ve signed with any NFL team. But, two players and two coaches on the Jets had Catanzaro running back to New York.
“Lachlan (Edwards) and Thomas (Hennessy) are two of my boys, so I’m excited about that. I’m just excited to be back,” Catanzaro said. “They do a heck of a job snapping and holding and they did a great job for me two years ago, so I’m excited about the comfortability factor there with them and with (Brant) Boyer and Hammer (special teams assistant Jeff Hammerschmidt). I’m excited about every part of it, I really am.”
In his first season with the Jets, Catanzaro had one of the best years of his career. He was 25-for-30 on his field goals attempts and connected on all 29 of his extra points. The Jets decided not to bring him back for another year and instead went with Jason Myers in 2018.
With Myers now in Seattle, Catanzaro has big shoes to fill as Myers was one of the league’s best kickers last season. Catanzaro struggled a bit last year, but maybe being back in New York will have him kicking more confidently.
