CHANDIGARH: For the second day in a row, the maximum temperature was above 40 degrees in the city on Monday — 40.7 degree Celsius, 6 degrees above normal, while the minimum was 21.1 degrees Celsius, 3 degrees above normal. But there is some good news: the mercury may drop by a few notches on Tuesday and Wednesday, with even light rain expected.
The weathermen said a western disturbance may bring a dust storm and light to moderate rain to city and parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Dr Manmohan Singh, director, meteorological Chandigarh, said a hot and dry wind will blow in the city on Tuesday. The heatwave will not relent but on April 13, a western disturbance will become active in the upper areas of Himachal Pradesh, adding a possibility of rain in lower areas too, he said. The meteorological department has already advised people not to step out of their houses unnecessarily, stay hydrated and to cover their heads.
