Chandigarh: Snake slithers up leg of cop at overspeeding naka

CHANDIGARH: Fear gripped a cop sitting on grass in wait to catch an overspeeding violator when a snake slithered up his leg and inside his trousers on Thursday noon.

Jaspreet, deployed as a constable with the traffic wing, was assisting assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ved Pal at a speed radar check point on the road dividing sectors 43 and 52 at 11.30 am. The ASI and another constable were sitting on chairs. The constable noticed a 5-foot snake sneaking up the trousers of constable Jaspreet. It had climbed till his knees, when Jaspreet stood up and yanked his leg with force. The snake fell off. All the three cops stopped the naka and ran to some distance. Later, the snake disappeared in the grass.

Jaspreet found redness and some marks on his leg and some marks. A PCR vehicle took him to Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16, for treatment. Doctors found the snake had not bit him and discharged the Cops have complained they need to sit on the roadside and on grass to catch speeding vehicles. They have requested senior officials to raise the issue with the horticulture department regarding removing grasses and bushes from roadsides
