CHANDIGARH: PK Krishnadas, chairman of the National Public Amenities Committee (PAC), Railway Board, ministry of railways, expressed grave concern over security measures at Chandigarh railway station.
Krishnadas, along with north zone coordinator of PAC Tajinder Singh Sran and other members, visited the Chandigarh railway station on Friday to review the passenger amenities. Taking note of the lapses, he directed the Ambala division officials to get the CCTVs upgraded and intimate him at his Delhi office.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) DSP GS Waraich, while apprising the chairman, said, “As part of the amenities overhaul, the Chandigarh railway station was to get new CCTV cameras and emergency talk-back systems. At present, 35 CCTV cameras are installed at the station, but their recordings and resolution are of poor quality. These will be replaced with high-resolution 133 IP cameras, which don’t require a recording device. It has been approved and tenders have been floated.”
Krishnadas said, “The inspection of amenities was being done on a regular basis. We are here to assess and upgrade the amenities.” The PAC inspection found many discrepancies and directed the departments concerned to pull up their socks. The panel inspected pay-and-use toilets, lifts, luggage scanning machine, battery-operated cars, bottle-crushing machines, foot overbridge, catering stalls, current reservations berth availability display boards and tuck shops.
