Chandigarh: Pedestrian, 50, dies in hit-and-run

CHANDIGARH: A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run near sectors 44, 45, 50, 51 light-point late on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bahadur Singh, a resident of Kajehri village in Sector 53.

His relative Kuldeep Singh said in his police complaint, “Bahadur and I worked as plumbers. We were walking back home after winding up work in Sector 45. When we were crossing the sectors 44, 45, 50, 51 light-point, a speeding vehicle hit Bahadur and sped away.” Passersby informed the police and a PCR van took Bahadur to PGI, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Sector 49 police reached PGI, recorded the statement of Kuldeep and registered a case against the vehicle driver. They are scrutinizing the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area to trace the accused.
