CHANDIGARH: To land at the first position in the municipal corporation (MC) elections, major political parties BJP, Congress and AAP are taking a similar route: involve central leadership, deploy Delhi politicians, give them responsibility and hold planning sessions with local leaders.
If AAP has deployed seven MLAs from Delhi, BJP has placed six leaders from the national capital on duty. Congress too has sent its experienced members to manage things on the ground. All of them are largely managing, coordinating and controlling campaigns. With campaigning to end on Tuesday, a few of them will return home, while others will stay put till the results are out on December 27.
“As it is the first time AAP is contesting the MC elections, the central leadership is putting in 100% efforts to be the victor. We have got experienced political people from Delhi working hard for us and guiding the campaign. Since all of them are seasoned politicians, we are gaining a lot from them,” a senior AAP leader said.
A BJP leader said, “Our leaders from Delhi are helping us from the backend. All of them have a good poll record— either they have contested elections or remain in their management, their guidance is proving beneficial.” For Congress, one of the two observers is from New Delhi municipal corporation.
