Chandigarh: Four robbers held 3 days after attack on two vendor brothers

CHANDIGARH: Three days after a gang tried to rob two vegetable vendor brothers in Sector 19, the police on Thursday claimed to have busted it with the arrest of four of its members.

Monu, 24, Sunny, 23, both of Sector 25, Pardeep, 25, and Vinod, 28, of Faidan village, were caught on a tip-off from Sector 25 while they were planning another robbery. Two stolen vehicles were recovered from their possession. Police said besides the robbery bid on the two brothers in Sector 19, the accused had also committed a knife-point robbery in Sector 25 on February 3.

Cops said Monu —the gang kingpin—was a habitual offender and booked in around 23 cases of robbery, dacoity, Arms Act and attempt to murder. Pardeep was earlier arrested in six cases of murder, robbery and snatching. Vinod was an accused in three cases of murder, robbery and the Arms Act. All the three were out on bail. Sunny was arrested for the first time.

The four were produced before a local court that sent them in police remand.
