CHANDIGARH: Around 10 people armed with sharp-edge weapons and sticks allegedly assaulted a priest of a Valmiki temple and his two followers at Daria village on Monday evening
Dev Nath, the priest, blamed a BJP leader and his son for the attack that was caught on CCTV cameras, alleging they wanted to grab the land of the temple. He, however, did not identify any of the attackers.
In his complaint to Industrial Area, Phase I, police station, Dev Nath said he was sitting outside the temple with some people when around 10 goons arrived. He and others ran inside a room to save themselves, but the accused barged in and attacked them with swords and knives, he alleged. The accused fled. The other two injured were Pinku and Sumit, followers of Dev Nath. Pinku had come to invite Dev Nath for the wedding of his sister.
Later, Dev Nath informed the police helpline. A police control room vehicle reached the spot and rushed the three to Manimajra hospital. All the injured were stated to be out of danger.
Police registered a case of rioting against Raja Balhari, Kuldeep, Paras, Mota, Rashid Billa, Pawan, Pradum, Bedi, Gopi and another person, all residents of Colony Number 4. Cops, however, said the accused had gone to attack Sumit but Dev Nath also received injuries.
