Chandigarh: After month, GMCH admits Covid patient

CHANDIGARH: Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, has opened its Covid admission area shut for a month after a patient was admitted on Sunday night. In PGI, there are 13 patients in the Covid hospital. The number was 17 last week.

“We had been sending Covid patients for home isolation as the cases were mild. But the patient who turned up on Saturday required hospital care,” said a doctor in GMCH. He said, “The patient is from the city and we only hope admissions do not increase.”

There are 251 Covid beds available with oxygen in all the private and government hospitals, with 237 beds vacant. On Monday, four patients tested positive for Covid, the highest within a week, while five patients were discharged.

PGI, however, will continue to dedicate Nehru Extension hospital for Covid patients. “Those admitted are from Punjab and other states. There are five patients on ventilators, while the remaining are on oxygen therapy,” said a doctor in PGI.
