Chandigarh: 6 trains cancelled, 2 short-terminated

CHANDIGARH: The farmers’ ‘rail roko’ agitation in Amritsar on Monday impacted Chandigarh as well, with six trains cancelled and two trains short-terminated.

Some of the passengers objected at the Chandigarh railway station when they came to know about the cancellation. Ajit Pal Singh, who had to take a train to Amritsar, said no information was given by the railways about the cancellation of the train. “It was urgent for me to reach Amritsar. Now, there is no time to catch a bus,” he said.

Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh Super Fast Express, Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh Intercity Express and Chandigarh-Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express were cancelled. Sachkhand Express and Paschim Bandra Express were halted at Chandigarh and their onward journey to Mohali and Amritsar cancelled.

For Tuesday, a train departing for Amritsar and arriving from there were cancelled and one train arriving from Ferozepur was cancelled, said railway authorities.

The farmers’ demands included loan waiver, compensation and jobs for families of farmers who died in their agitation and fulfilment of assurances given to them by Centre.
