Chance to win free food for a year when Popeyes opens in Nottingham

Nottingham city centre's newest fast food restaurant will be rolling out the orange carpet (to match its branding) for opening day - with a big treat in store for chicken lovers. The first three people in the queue outside Popeyes will win the ultimate prize - free food for a year.

They will receive free chicken sandwiches - Louisiana-style fried chicken with pickles and mayo in a bun - that's three a week for 12 months . There's further giveaways of limited edition Popeyes merchandise and chicken sandwiches for the first 50 people in the queue.

The US chain, which is spreading its wings in the UK, said queueing will start from 9am on Saturday October 1, ready for the opening at 11am. Live band The Brass Funkeys, who have performed as Glastonbury and Ronnie Scott's, be providing a New Orleans party vibe.

Popeyes will be opening in the former Burger King restaurant, in Upper Parliament Street, which failed to reopen after the series of lockdowns in 2020. It will be the sixth in the UK, after debuting in London in 2021, with plans to open hundreds more including drive-throughs. The brand recently announced its imminent East Midlands expansion with locations in Derby and Leicester.

Chicken fans will finally be able to get their hands on the mouth-watering menu which as well as the Chicken Sandwich includes original Southern biscuits and gravy and its 12-hour marinated chicken at the 100-seater restaurant.

Previous opening have seen queues from from 5am with fans eager to sample the famous "shatter-crunch" bite. Customers can get an extra kick by choosing spicy mayonnaise.

There were crazy scenes when Filipino fried chicken favourite Jollibee opened opposite last December with fans queuing around the block.
