Chance to run iconic real-life Emmerdale Woolpack pub with 'huge potential' as bosses seek new landlord

A village pub, which served as The Woolpack in Emmerdale for 20 years, seeks a new publican.

Pubco Stonegate, which owns The Woolpack, at Esholt, near Guiseley, has put the pub's tenancy on the market. The inn, formerly The Commercial, was used for external shots of the ITV soap pub between 1976 and 1996.

The landlord or landlady will pay an 'introductory' rent of £20,000 a year with the potential to turn over £392,000 a year. Stonegate describes The Woolpack as a 'significant and attractive stone-built character property' in a 'delightful village location'.

The pubco says: "This significant and attractive stone-built character property, formerly on the iconic TV set of Emmerdale and whose fascia was used for many years in the filming is now available. Its delightful village location means that the pub has a regular and loyal customer base, as well as plenty of year-round passing trade from tourists and coach parties, making this an outstanding business opportunity.

"The Woolpack has a homely feel throughout with its traditional décor and the external seating area offers the perfect location for a drink in the sun whilst in the centre of the village. The new publican should consider the vital stature of this property and its huge potential by developing the food and drink offerings, whilst immersing themselves within the local community."

The listing adds: "The Woolpack has great potential to enhance and grow the current offer and we are seeking a new publican who can make the most of all that this iconic pub business provides. The traditional qualities of fine ales and a warm village welcome should be enhanced with a strong dining offer.

"Therefore, we are looking for a publican with the highest standards in products and customer service."

The Falcon, at Arncliffe in the Yorkshire Dales, served as the original Woolpack between 1972 and 1976. It moved to The Commercial – now The Woolpack – until 1996 before a mock-up of The Woolpack was built as part of a custom-built set on the Harewood Estate.
