The opportunity to fire the Fort Scratchley gun is one of the major prizes in a Hunter raffle to support current and former service people.
Newcastle's Raffle to Remember, which was organised by Paymasters Café and Out of the Square Media with support from The Newcastle Herald, came about thanks to Paymasters chef Rodney Scales.
Mr Scales cooks bacon and egg rolls each Anzac Day for people walking to the service, but wasn't able to this year as the events were scaled back to private ceremonies.
He wanted to still do something so joined forces with Marty Adnum from Out of the Square Media to organise the raffle.
The raffle includes five prize packs made up of 40 individual treats including a night at Noah's on the Beach, a Tiger Moth joy flight and meal and wine packs. More than $4000 worth of prizes have been donated.
"It's awesome people have been so generous to come up with 40 prizes of such quality," Mr Adnum said. "And what good it's doing to help others."
Proceeds will go equally to Hunter Defence Support Network, SoldierOn, Legacy and Mates4Mates. Winners will be drawn at 11am Saturday, which is VE Day. Winners will be contacted directly. Tickets are available at raffletix.com.au/remember
