Chance the Rapper talks Jeremih’s ‘amazing recovery’ from coronavirus, teases new holiday album

Chance the Rapper said fellow Chicago artist Jeremih had an “amazing recovery” from the coronavirus, and they plan to release a holiday album Friday.

“Jeremih was sick with COVID. He got really, really sick in the past couple of weeks, and he just was released from the hospital the other day. He’s made an amazing recovery. Thank God,” Chance told Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her daytime show scheduled to air Tuesday. “It’s an awesome thing. We’ve been wanting to put this (album) out for a long time.”

Upon his release last week, Jeremih thanked the “doctors and nurses at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for saving my life.” The 33-year-old native of Chicago's South Side is known for his 2009 debut track “Birthday Sex.”

Chance described their new album, “Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama Deluxe,” as a compilation of old music and a few new songs. His interview with DeGeneres was from a Chicago set where he said he was preparing for a Christmas concert.

The interview comes about a week after Chance was sued in Cook County court by his former manager, Pat Corcoran, who said the Grammy winner owes him $3 million in unpaid commissions. The rapper was not asked about the lawsuit in the preview clips of the episode posted online Tuesday morning.
