Chance the Rapper curating city-sponsored music fest for young adults

June 10--Give the city credit for knowing how to cater to a young audience.

The lineup for the first annual Teens in the Park festival -- which is presented by Chicago City of Learning, the Chicago Park District and Mayor Rahm Emanuel -- will be curated by emerging hip-hop star and Chicago native Chance the Rapper. The free music fest takes place June 24 and is open to young adults 13-24.

"I'm organizing Chicago's first T.I.P festival ... SO YOU KNOW ITS GON BE FREE," tweeted Chance, whose dad, Ken Bennett, is the deputy chief of staff and director of the Mayor's Office of Public Engagement. His mom, Lisa, works in the Illinois attorney general's office.

Chicago rapper Phenom is scheduled to host the festivities and Chance pal Donnie Trumpet and Dlow are among the names expected to perform (it should be noted that Chance was not listed as a performer in the press release). T.I.P. Fest will include activities such as graffiti art, breakdancing, jewelry making, fashion design and digital media. Those interested in attended must preregister online at chicagocityoflearning.org/tipfest.

Chance launched an open mic series in February for high school students. Fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West performed at Chance's open mic night last month.
