May 10--"I got pneumonia but #Chance3 still"
It took a simple Tweet, late in the night, to bring some clarity to what was initially a complex situation after Chance the Rapper was hospitalized on Monday. The Chicago rapper was scheduled to perform at a New York benefit, before word came out via Billboard and TMZ that he had been taken ill. Emails announcing Chance's illness and a lineup change were sent to event attendees a few hours before the show.
The benefit was for the Robin Hood Foundation, an organization that helps needy families. A bill that included Mark Ronson filled in at the last minute for Chance at the $150 per ticket show.
This isn't the first time a sudden illness forced Chance the Rapper to cancel a show. He was scheduled to play Coachella in 2014 but had to cancel due to an undisclosed illness. This has been a busy period for the performer, who debuted his new single, "Blessings," on Jimmy Fallon's late-night show. His latest album, "Chance 3," is still scheduled for release on Friday.
