Chance the Rapper calls 'Chi-Raq' an 'offensive unsuccessful flop'

March 09--One week after "Chi-Raq" director Spike Lee reportedly called Chance the Rapper a fraud, the South Side rapper called Lee a lame liar and his movie an "offensive unsuccessful flop."

"Come on now. This guy promoting this offensive unsuccessful flop of a movie... about the South Side...in (expletive) Evanston... and then get mad when students at the screening challenge him on his sexist and racist movie and he wanna point the finger at me," Chance the Rapper tweeted Tuesday.

Lee appeared at Northwestern University last week to screen "Chi-Raq" and discuss the movie, a fictional look at gun violence on the South Side. He called Chance the Rapper, born Chancelor Bennett, a "straight-up fraud" during the university talk, according to media reports.

The barbs continued a months-long feud that was sparked when Chance the Rapper called "Chi-Raq" exploitative and Lee fired back by pointing out the rapper's father Ken Bennett works for Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Chance the Rapper threatened Tuesday to release audio of Lee "begging me to be in that trash (expletive) movie."

Though Grammy-winning South Side singer Jennifer Hudson stars in the movie, South Side rappers including Rhymefest said they refused to be in the film, which was released in some theaters in December and on Amazon Prime last month.

The movie has earned $2.6 million at the box office, according to box office tracker Box Office Mojo. It's unclear how many times it's been streamed.
