Championship transfer rumours: Norwich reject Everton bid, Bristol City star to leave

The Championship season is well underway, and clubs will be doing everything in their power to strengthen their squads before the transfer deadline in a few days.

Speculation over the future of players is more prominent now, in the last four days of the window, than ever.

There are still some star players in the second-tier who could be leaving before Monday night at 11pm.

Here are the very latest transfer rumours concerning Championship clubs.

Swans hopeful of signing Brighton forward

Swansea City are ‘hopeful’ of completing the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to BBC Sport .

The 22-year-old has been identified by Steve Cooper as the club’s main target ever since it became clear that they would not be able to strike a deal to re-sign Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster.

Gyokeres has played eight times for the Seagulls - scoring once - as well as making two caps for the Sweden national side.

Cooper admitted the Swans’ interest in Gyokeres: “He is certainly a player that we like. But he is being used frequently at Brighton at the moment for cup games. If there comes a time where Brighton are happy for him to go on loan - which I think they might have said publicly, I am not too sure - and they think we would be a good option, then it would be something we would like to do.”

QPR on brink of signing Benfica forward

QPR are on the brink of signing Benfica forward Chris Willock, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo ( via Sport Witness ).

Willock, who came through Arsenal’s academy, has been at the Portuguese giants since 2017 but has had two loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town, more recently.

Mark Warburton’s side are set to spend €1m on the deal to sign the 22-year-old, with Benfica asking for a sell-on clause in his contract.

The English forward has been linked with numerous Championship clubs so far during the window - including Cardiff City, Swansea and Huddersfield - but it looks like he’s on his way to Loftus Road.

Norwich reject Everton’s bid for Godfrey

Norwich City have rejected Everton’s £26m bid for defender Ben Godfrey, according to Sky Sports .

The Toffees submitted an offer for the 22-year-old which was believed to be £20m, plus £6m in add-ons.

However, the Canaries have turned down the offer for their star centre-back, but the Premier League side could return with an improved bid before Monday’s deadline.

Daniel Farke’s side have already lost Jamal Lewis this summer, with the full-back moving to Newcastle United.

Bristol City midfielder close to leaving club

Bristol City midfielder Niclas Eliasson is close to leaving Ashton Gate, with a move to French club Nimes Olympique almost completed.

That’s according to Telefoot Chaine journalist Simone Rivera , who says that the two clubs are ‘exchanging the final documents’ of the deal.

The 24-year-old joined the Robins back in August 2017 in a €1.8m deal from Norrkoping, and has made almost 100 appearances in all competitions for the side since then.

However, his time at Ashton Gate is up, it seems, with a transfer to the Ligue 1 side set to be announced in the next few days.
