Championship transfer rumours: Leeds dealt Brewster blow, Reading eye former Boro winger

The 2019/20 Championship campaign was suspended indefinitely last Friday, meaning the campaign remains on hold because of the coronavirus crisis.

It is now five weeks since a ball was last kicked in the Championship and the chances of one being kicked again anytime soon are slim.

That, of course, means that on-field matters will not be able to write the headlines for the foreseeable future, paving the way for transfer gossip and speculation to take care of those matters.

And with that in mind, here is a round-up of the day’s very latest Championship rumours.

Leeds suffer Brewster blow

Any hopes that Leeds United had of securing a deal for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster this summer have been dealt a blow.

According to The Telegraph, Swansea City, the club that currently have Brewster on loan from the Premier League champions-elect, are keen on taking him back to the Liberty Stadium again next season for a second loan spell.

The Swans signed the highly-rated 20-year-old back in January and he had, up until the stoppage of the season, shown some promising signs, scoring four times in 11 matches.

According to the report, Swansea boss Steve Cooper has been very impressed by the qualities he has shown and wants to keep hold of him next season.

Reading lead race for former Boro man

Reading are leading the chase to sign former Middlesbrough winger Carlos de Pena, report TEAMtalk.

The 28-year-old, who spent two years at the Riverside before leaving in 2017, is currently on the books of Ukranian club Dynamo Kiev.

However, the Uruguayan winger could soon be on his way back to the Championship, with a plethora of second-tier clubs showing an interest in signing the former Real Oviedo loanee.

It is claimed that the Royals are leading the race as things stand and are ready to complete a deal, though they do face competition from elsewhere.

Derby dealt Kadioglu blow

Derby County’s hopes of signing attacking-midfielder Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce have suffered a blow this summer, according to a report by Turkish media outlet Fanatik.

The Dutchman made quite a name for himself during the first couple of years of his career with NAC Breda before sealing a move to the Turkish giants in 2018.

Kadioglu has since continued his development and has been showing encouraging signs in the Super Lig this season, scoring two goals and claiming two assists in 15 outings.

But any hopes that Rams boss Phillip Cocu had of bringing his fellow countryman to Pride Park this summer have hit a stumbling block, with Kadioglu now warming to the idea of staying in Turkey.
