Championship transfer round-up: Fresh Ismaila Sarr interest as Cardiff prepare for 14th signing

The new English Football League (EFL) season kicked off last weekend.

And as we have now come to expect from all three divisions, there was no shortage of drama or headlines. Whilst plenty of business has already been done over the summer by clubs, especially in the Championship, it is important to note that the summer transfer window is still open for a few more weeks.

It slams shut on Thursday, September 1 meaning just under a month still remains for the 24 clubs in the second tier to strengthen their squads and also try to hang on to their prized assets.

Here, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest confirmed deals and rumours on August 3.

Another rebuffed Middlesbrough bid

Chris Wilder isn't having much luck in his attempts to boost his Middlesbrough squad.

He saw an offer for Hull City defender Jacob Greaves knocked back earlier this week. And now he's seen a £7m bid for Norwegian striker Jorgen Strand Larsen turned down. Dutch side Groningen are resigned to losing the 22-year-old, who scored 17 goals in the Eredivisie last term, but are holding out for a bigger fee

Boss Wilder wants another five signings this month but is struggling to land his top targets. So far the Teessiders have brought in Marcus Forss from Brentford as well as a clutch of free transfers and loan signings.

They do have significant funds to spend following the eight-figure sales of both Djed Spence and Marcus Tavernier this summer.

Sarr interesting Premier League sides

Watford's Ismaila Sarr is now reportedly on the watchlist of Leeds United.

The Senegal winger's future is up in the air, after the Hornets' relegation from the Premier League last season. He is one of the top-earners at Vicarage Road and has two years left on his contract, meaning it will take a sizeable fee to persuade them to even think about letting him go.

He started Watford's first game back in the Championship on Monday at home to Sheffield United and set up the only goal of the game as Rob Edwards' side started the season in style. Leeds are in the market for a player with flair and creativity after sanctioning Raphinha's departure to Spanish giants Barcelona. West Ham were linked with a move for Sarr earlier in the summer.

Cardiff poised to land 14th summer signing

It's been a hugely busy summer at the Cardiff City Stadium - and it shows no signs of slowing down on the recruitment front.

The Bluebirds are poised to complete the £500,000 signing of young Tottenham Hotspur forward Kion Etete. The 20-year-old is set to undergo a medical with the Championship side on Wednesday with a view to becoming their 14th summer arrival.

Etete had two separate loan spells in the EFL last season, scoring six goals in 31 appearances combined for both Northampton and Cheltenham. His Spurs contract has one year remaining.
