Celtic, Cardiff City and Bristol City targeting Boro ace

Bristol City are in the running to land Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga this summer according to reports, but they will face a battle for his signature according to the latest.

The striker has long been mentioned in dispatches regarding a move to City, but Football Insider reports the Robins face stiff competition from Scottish champions Celtic from relegated Premier League side Cardiff City who both have serious financial clout.

Middlesbrough are looking to dramatically cut their wage bill after failing to make an immediate return to the top flight last season season leaving the 26-year-old’s future up in the air.

Young Liverpool hotshot George Johnston is a wanted man in the Championship according to the latest reports.

The 20-year-old defender impressed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in Thursday’s 6-0 friendly win over Tranmere and there are plenty of Championship clubs keen to take him on loan for the season according to The Mirror.

And the Scotland Under-21 star is already on the radar of West Brom, Hull, Wigan, Blackburn and Preston.

Middlesbrough look to off-load Danish flop Martin Braithwaite

Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate wants to off-load Danish flop Martin Braithwaite as his wages are hampering him in the transfer market report The Mirror.

Braithwaite, 28, is on £2m-plus a year, with the Teessiders struggling under a serious wage bill and losing staff now they no longer have the safety net of parachute payments.

Braithwaite spent last season on loan at Leganes, but the Spanish club want all his wages covering.

Southampton midfielder snubs move to West Brom

Charlie Austin has snubbed a move to West Brom and looks set to see out the rest of his contract at Southampton.

The clubs had agreed a deal but Austin decided he wanted to stay put and fight for his place.

He has 12 months left on his St Mary’s contract and will be in pole position to negotiate a lucrative move as a free agent next year.

Fulham sign Ivan Cavaleiro from Wolves

Ivan Cavaleiro has joined Fulham on a season-long loan from Wolves.

Director of Football Operations at Fulham Tony Khan said: “Ivan Cavaleiro is a great addition to Fulham. A top target for us for years, a top player on a squad that won the Championship two seasons ago.

“I’m thrilled we were able to work with Wolves, Ivan and his representatives on this deal to bring Ivan to Craven Cottage. Come on Fulham!”
