Championship starlet urged to 'take a chance' after Liverpool and Manchester United transfer links

Paul Merson has advised Birmingham City starlet Jude Bellingham to 'take a chance' and make a move to the Premier League amidst reported interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

16-year-old Bellingham, according to the Daily Mail, is a player that the Reds 'like', though any move would more likely come in the summer.

90Min also claim that Liverpool are interested in Bellingham, adding that his current side are refusing to let him depart this month.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, via HITC, Merson said: "You have got to take chances in life when you get the opportunity and that's what it's all about.

"If I knew at 16,17, 18 what I know at 51, I would be a different person.

"One bit of advice I'd give is that always take that advantage. Always take that opportunity and then go from there."

Bellingham is a highly rated prospect and after bringing in Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg, among other talented teenagers, over the last few months, Liverpool are being tipped by some to make another swoop for an emerging talent.

Manchester United have been linked most heavily with Bellingham, an England under-17 international, and Merson admitted the youngster would find it very hard to turn them down.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were rumoured to be preparing a £30 million bid earlier this week, so there will be plenty of competition for the starlet, who has made 27 first-team appearances under Pep Clotet at St Andrew's.
