Newcastle United youngster Dan Barlaser is wanted by Championship outfit Wigan Athletic.
Barlaser is being lined up for a loan deal with Latics boss Paul Cook a fan of the midfielder’s style of play.
Wigan have kept a close eye on Barlaser during his successful loan stint with Accrington Stanley this season.
Barlaser was eager to get first-team experience after a short stint at Crewe last term.
But this season he has made 48 first-team appearances and grabbed three goals and two assists from midfield.
United will look to extend his contract, with his current deal running out in 2020, but then send him out to the Championship to see how he fares at the next level following his stint in League One.
Preston North End are also keen on Barlaser but Wigan are ready to make their move.
