Championship side have 'bid accepted' for Nottingham Forest-linked striker - report

Brentford are reportedly in pole position to sign Nottingham Forest-linked striker Ivan Toney.

The Peterborough United ace is a wanted man this summer, with director of football Barry Fry previously claiming 10 clubs from the Premier League and Championship have him on their radars.

The Reds were among those rumoured to be interested, along with West Bromwich Albion, Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic, and Bundesliga heavyweights RB Leipzig.

But according to the Scottish Sun, Posh have accepted a bid for their talisman “believed to be from Premier League hopefuls Brentford”.

The League One side are said to want a fee of around £10m to £11m for the 24-year-old, who netted 26 goals in 39 appearances in the season just gone.

The Scottish Sun say Celtic “appear to have been priced out of a move” for Toney.

They quote Fry as telling the Daily Mail: “We have given a club permission to speak to Ivan because they met our valuation.

"It's not Celtic, but, out of courtesy, I let Celtic know what had happened.

"They asked to be kept informed and we informed them. I haven't heard from them since then."

Toney started his career at Northampton Town, before joining Newcastle United in 2015.

He had loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe United and Wigan Athletic before heading to Peterborough two years ago.
