Championship rumours: Tottenham step up Ryan Sessegnon chase, Leeds United linked with defender

The Championship transfer rumour mill is hotting up as sides across the division start to assemble their squads ahead of another gruelling campaign.

For some it will be a case of plotting for promotion to the Premier League, while for others it will be about staving off the threat of relegation to League One.

We've got all the latest Championship transfer rumours right here…

Spurs make space for Sessegnon

Two Tottenham Hotspur defenders could be on the way out to make room for Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon.

Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose are set to depart North London this summer to facilitate the move for Sessegnon, who only has one year left on his current deal with the Cottagers and could leave for free.

The Mirror report Fulham know the England Under-21 international wants to leave Fulham, but the two clubs are haggling over a price.

Spurs value him at around £25 million, but Fulham want much more.

Villa send for a Saint

Aston Villa are set to launch a bid for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

Dean Smith's recently-promoted Villans were helped to the Premier League by Jed Steer, but a new 'keeper is high on the agenda at Villa Park this summer.

Sky Sports say McCarthy is on the list of possible targets, with Liverpool also touted as a possible destination as Jurgen Klopp seeks cover for Alisson.

Saints are willing to let the one-cap England international leave the club, despite seeing him sign a new four-year-deal last year.

Gallagher interest grows

Staying on the South Coast, Wigan have entered the race for Saints striker Sam Gallagher.

It was reported earlier this week that Blackburn Rovers had shown an interest in the England Under-20 international but now The Sun claim the Latics are involved in the tussle.

Happe could head to Leeds

Elsewhere, Leeds United are reportedly interested in Leyton Orient centre-back Dan Happe.

According to the Daily Mail, Marcelo Bielsa's side hold a 'long-term- interest in the 20-year-old with Premier League Tottenham, Leicester City and Norwich City also linked.

However, Happe will cost in excess of £300,000 as the Sun have reported Spurs have had an initial approach turned down by the League Two club.

Baggies don't get their man

West Bromwich Albion's move for Benfica midfielder Filip Krovinovic is 'at risk' according to Portuguese media.

O Jogo claim the 23-year-old has rejoined Benfica's squad because of a 'last-minute setback'.

That, however, contradicts a report in rival publication A Bola that claims the transfer is still being negotiated.
