Championship rumours: Leeds United join Brewster race, Nottingham Forest target striker

The 2019/20 Championship campaign was suspended “indefinitely” on Friday, with the EFL confirming that fixtures would only resume when it is safe to do so.

After the season was originally suspended until April 30 just over a fortnight ago because of the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, the EFL, alongside the Premier League, the Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship, were left with no choice but to extend the period without football even further.

That, of course, means that on-field matters will not be able to write the headlines for the foreseeable future, paving the way for transfer gossip and speculation to take care of those matters.

And with that in mind, here is a round-up of the day’s very latest Championship rumours.

Leeds to revive Brewster interest

Championship table-toppers Leeds United will make a fresh attempt to sign Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster on loan this summer if the Premier League champions-elect allow the talented youngster to leave on a temporary basis once again.

The 20-year-old, who won the FIFA Under-17s World Cup with England back in 2017, was being monitored by Leeds before he joined the Whites’ Championship rivals, Swansea City, in January.

But according to a report by Football Insider , the Elland Road outfit will be in the hunt to sign the youngster once again this summer, should Liverpool be willing to let him leave on loan.

Since joining Steve Cooper’s Swansea in January, the striker has scored four times in 11 Championship outings.

Galatasaray name their price for Forest target

Nottingham Forest will have to pay €5m if they are to sign Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne this summer, a report by Turkish media outlet Fotomac claims.

Forest are keen on adding the 28-year-old, who is currently on loan at Belgian club Club Brugge, to their ranks, with boss Sabri Lamouchi looking to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.

It is now claimed that the City Ground club will have to pay €5m to get a deal done for the much-travelled Senegal international.

This season, Diagne has scored four goals in 12 games for Brugge.

Palace confident of completing Ferguson swoop

The Express & Star are reporting that Premier League club Crystal Palace are growing increasingly confident of getting a deal done for West Bromwich Albion right-back Nathan Ferguson this summer.

The highly-rated 19-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, came close to joining the Eagles in the January transfer window only for a problem with his medical to bring an end to any hopes both parties had of concluding the deal.

Despite being initially put off from completing a move for the Baggies academy graduate, Palace have kept tabs on Ferguson and are now confident of attempting to get a deal done for a second time.

In January, Ferguson was poised to join Palace for a fee of £11m.
