Championship rumours: Leeds United eye forward, Derby battle Nottingham Forest for Chelsea teen

The Championship returned to our television screens last month for the first time since March.

Before then, the transfer rumours have been a major source of sports news, with teams still aiming to improve their squad for next season.

However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, clubs’ finances may be heavily impacted and this could be one of the quietest windows in terms of money spent, but teams are still aiming to find any bargains from across Europe.

With that in mind, here are the best Championship transfer rumours from today.

Leeds and West Brom eye forward

Leeds United, West Brom and Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Bundesliga striker Sebastian Andersson, according to Kicker.

Andersson has a £3.5 million release clause in his contract and has scored 12 goals in 33 games this season.

The report also claims that Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are also interested in signing the forward this summer.

Derby battling Forest for Chelsea teen

Derby County are reportedly in the running to sign Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo.

According to website TEAMtalk, the Rams are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old but have competition for his signature.

West Ham United have also been linked while Crystal Palace, Watford and Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest.

Toney attracting interest

Ten clubs from the Premier League and Championship are targeting Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney this summer, according to Posh director of football Barry Fry.

The interest in the 24-year-old is split evenly between the top two tiers, while there is also interest from abroad – although no concrete bids have yet been received.

When asked about a recent report that Brighton were in the running to sign Toney, Fry revealed the full extent of teams interested in the striker, who scored 26 goals during the 2019/20 season.

“Ten clubs from the Premier League or the Championship have asked about Ivan since we stopped playing,” he told the Peterborough Telegraph.

“But none have made a bid yet as most of them don’t know what division they will be playing in next season, how much money they will have to spend and the transfer window isn’t even open for English clubs.”
