Championship rumours: Leeds United eye another midfielder, Derby County chase three additions

There is more Championship football to feast your eyes on this weekend as the run to the end of the season continues but there is plenty going on behind the scenes.

Some of the attention has started to shift towards the summer transfer market, where a host of clubs are expected to he heavily active as they seek to bolster their squads ahead of next season - which for some will come in another division.

Plans are already underway for many and a host of rumours are already floating around, so we have gathered some of the latest snippets of gossip below.

Derby County boss Frank Lampard looks set to tackle former England colleague Steven Gerrard in the transfer market as the Rams are rivaling Rangers for the services of Birmingham City forward Greg Stewart and Aberdeen defender Graeme Shinnie, Football Insider reports.

Both players are set to become free agents at the end of the campaign when their contracts expire, with Shinnie’s services heavily coveted as he has also been linked with Bristol City and Sheffield United.

Derby are also expected to revive their interest in Everton defender Matthew Pennington, the East Anglian Daily Times reports, after first targeting the Ipswich Town loanee during the January window.

The 24-year-old has spent a decade on the Toffees’ books but will be well down the pecking order when he returns to Goodison Park this summer, with a permanent exit for the defender expected.

Leeds United’s quest to bolster their midfield by raiding Championship sides continue as Football Insider states Marcelo Bielsa’s promotion-chasers have set their sights on Reading ace John Swift.

The 23-year-old has impressed in what has been a difficult campaign for the Royals, as they seek to fend off the threat of relegation, and Leeds see the former Chelsea man as a candidate to improve their squad even if they earn promotion to the Premier League.

Birmingham City have suffered a blow as highly-rated 16-year-old forward Romello Mitchell is poised to leave the club to join Premier League outfit Southampton, reports from Birmingham Live state.

The teenager was regarded to be one of the brightest prospects in the Blues’ academy and had courted a wealth of interest from top-flight clubs but it seems the Saints have won the race for his signature.

Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and West Brom could all be set to lose players due to Port Vale’s plans in the market this summer, as the manager of the League Twoside told StokeOnTrent Live that he is keen on securing deals for three loanees again next season.

Villa’s Mitchell Clark, Forest’s Adam Crookes and West Brom’s Kyle Howkins have all impressed John Askey this season and he is keen on bringing them back to Staffordshire next term.

Finally, Queens Park Rangers have made former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood their number one target as they seek a replacement for Steve McClaren, the Evening Standard reports.
