Championship rumours: Leeds United agree fee for new signing, Bristol City eye midfielder

With the end of the season upon us, attention has started to shift towards the summer transfer market and the business that clubs could complete.

Planning ahead is vital for sides, even though many do not know yet which division they will be in, and preparations for the window will be made well in advance - although that does not mean everything that occurs will be expected.

As clubs start to plan their shopping spree, plenty of rumours are starting to emerge and we have gathered some of the latest snippets below.

Leeds United are closing in on an addition as Football Insider reports the Peacocks have agreed a six-figure fee with Motherwell to beat Southampton to the services of 16-year-old talent Stuart McKinstrey.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have reportedly fought with a number of clubs for the signature of the teenager but it is now stated that Leeds have won the chase, paying a fee of £400,000 to bring the Scotland prodigy to Elland Road.

He may not be the only imminent deal for Leeds though, as Football Insider also reports that Bielsa has given the green light for Leeds to complete a deal for Reading midfielder John Swift - regardless of what division they are in.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye with the relegation-threatened Royals this season, scoring three goals and contributing another three assists in his side’s battle to avoid relegation to League One.

Sheffield Wednesday could see a significant departure this summer as the Sun on Sunday (7/04, page 61) claims that Steve Bruce is ready to offload Portuguese forward Lucas Joao but wants a high fee for the striker.

The Owls are commanding a figure of £8m for the 25-year-old, who has scored nine goals this season but has been absent for the last few months due to injury.

Bristol City are keen on a move for Motherwell midfielder Alex Rodriguez, journalist Alan Nixon reports , with the 25-year-old Spaniard having established himself north of the border after joining the club last summer.

TV pundit believes Marcelo Bielsa was trying to show off with his Leeds United tactics at Birmingham

Previously on the books as a youth player at Sunderland, Rodriguez is well-travelled having spent time in Australia, Portugal and Romania - which would give him one of the more unique routes into English football if a move goes ahead.

West Brom’s managerial hopes seem to have suffered a blow as former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has spoken about his future, telling the Times that a return to his homeland to manage in the Bundesliga is appealing.

Sacked by the Terriers earlier this season, Wagner has been out of football since but is among a host of names to be linked with the vacant managerial position at West Brom following Darren Moore’s dismissal.

Leeds United fans are all saying same thing about Patrick Bamford's display vs Birmingham City

Sticking with the managerial theme, Football.London reports Queens Park Rangers have made contact with a manager in the second tier of French football - current Troyes boss Rui Almeida.

The Portuguese boss has caught the eye this season after impressive performances in Ligue 2 with Troyes and was linked with a move to League One promotion-chasers Barnsley in January.
