Championship rumours: Everton target Wigan Athletic star, Celtic chase Cardiff City winger

Although the transfer window has shut, the rumours continue to swirl. Here is the latest gossip from across the Championship...

Everton want Gelhardt

Everton are keen to sign Wigan Athletic teenage star Joe Gelhardt.

The 17-year-old, who has been dubbed as the 'next Wayne Rooney' has impressed during cameo appearances in the Championship.

The Sun claim that Everton will make a move for Gelhardt, who is already an England Under-18 international.

Gelhardt has scored one goal in Championship appearances for the relegation-threated Latics this term.

Celtic want Murphy

Celtic are lining up a summer deal for Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy.

The Sun previously reported that Hoops boss Neil Lennon tried to sign the £11million winger on transfer deadline day but saw their efforts rebuffed.

However, the same paper now claim that Celtic will go back in for Murphy during the summer window.

Murphy is contracted to Cardiff until 2022.

Huddersfield eye permanent deals

Danny Cowley has revealed the Huddersfield Town door is open for the club's loan signings to become permanent transfers.

The Terriers boss brought in experienced duo Jonas Lossl and Andy King on short-term loans, in addition to talented youngsters Emile Smith Rowe and Chris Willock.

"Whenever you sign a loan player, you do so because you like them and you think they are going to make your team significantly better," said Cowley.

"And when they are young, with potential, I think there is always that possibility (of making it permanent)."
