Championship rivals 'desperate' to keep Nottingham Forest target as striker's future uncertain

Reading are said to be “desperate to hold on to” Nottingham Forest target Josh Laurent.

The Reds have made at least one seven-figure bid for the midfielder, but have not yet managed to prise him away from the Madejski Stadium.

They are not the only ones said to be interested, with a number of clubs believed to be monitoring the 26-year-old after a fine first season with the Royals.

But Forest’s Championship rivals are keen to retain Laurent’s services, according to BerkshireLive.

They report: “Reading are desperate to hold on to Laurent and view him as an integral part of the side.

Striker uncertainty

The future of Nottingham Forest target Sandro Kulenovic remains up in the air, amid reports the striker has been the subject of a bid from America.

The Reds were said to have put forward a 3m euros (£2.5m) offer for the Dinamo Zagreb forward, with a loan deal also a possibility.

Initial reports in Croatia suggested Kulenovic wasn’t keen on a move to the City Ground and had turned down Chris Hughton’s side. It was then claimed he had changed his mind and was weighing up “where he will continue his career”.

Now the 21-year-old reportedly has another option to consider, as he finds himself out of favour at Zagreb.

Garner latest

The race to sign James Garner is well and truly on - with Nottingham Forest facing increased competition for the Manchester United midfielder.

After impressing in the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground, the youngster has been attracting plenty of attention.

The Reds would love to get him back for the upcoming campaign, but there is a battle to secure his services as the transfer window begins to spark into life.

United reporter Jonathan Shrager claims Stoke City are the latest Championship side with an eye on Garner, while two Premier League clubs “have registered an interest” in taking him on a season-long loan.

Doig stance

Hibernian are ready to take a firm stance on Nottingham Forest target Josh Doig amid continued uncertainty over the defender’s future.

Speculation about the 19-year-old has ramped up in recent days, but Hibs manager Jack Ross doesn’t want the saga to drag on for much longer.

The Reds have been eyeing up the left-back as they look for a solution to a problem position ahead of the new season, while there has also been talk about a big money move to Watford or Burnley - with some reports suggesting the latter would then be willing to negotiate a loan deal with Forest.

The situation has affected Doig, according to Ross, who has removed the teenager from his first-team plans for the upcoming Europa Conference League third round first-leg qualifier against HNK Rijeka.
