Championship rival to battle Nottingham Forest for Premier League striker - reports

Connor Wickham is a January transfer target for Bristol City.

According to BristolLive, the Crystal Palace striker - linked with Nottingham Forest yesterday - is a top target for Lee Johnson's side.

It is said Johnson wanted to sign the former Sunderland man in the summer, but finances and a desire for Wickham to try and nail down a first-team place at Selhurst Park prohibited such a move.

The Telegraph reported yesterday how Watford were interested in signing Wickham and name-checked Forest as suitors too.

Lewis Grabban is leading the line for Forest this season, with Rafa Mir - who has only started one Championship game all season - backup to the former AFC Bournemouth man.

Sabri Lamouchi could move for a striker in the January transfer window to give his side more firepower in the push for promotion to the Premier League.

His side currently sit in fourth place ahead of tonight's trip to Millwall.

Grabban is key to Lamouchi's side and his eight goals constitute a third of Forest's total for this season after 18 games.

As such, if he were to get injured it could topple Forest's plans for promotion and hinder what could potentially be a season to remember.

Forest have also been linked with a move for Dwight Gayle , the prolific Championship marksman out of favour with Newcastle United in the Premier League.
