Championship return could be on the cards for former Nottingham Forest midfielder

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Adlene Guedioura could be set for a return to the Championship.

The 35-year-old ex-Red is currently on the books of Qatari outfit Al-Gharafa, but a move back to English football could be on the cards.

Guedioura has been linked with recently-relegated Sheffield United, who will be playing in the second tier next season after finishing bottom of the Premier League.

The Blades have appointed former Watford and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic as their new manager, with the 52-year-old to leave Al-Gharafa and officially take charge at Bramall Lane next month.

And it is said he could bring some players with him.

Guedioura, as well as former Aston Villa man Jonathan Kodjia, would consider working with Jokanovic again at United, according to the Sheffield Star.

The pair have been in good form in Qatar, but it is claimed they would be open to following Jokanovic to England as the new boss looks to freshen up his squad.

Guedioura joined Al-Gharafa from the City Ground in the summer of 2019, ending his second permanent spell, and his third in total, with Forest.

Before his move, Sabri Lamouchi, who was head coach at the time, said the midfielder had asked to leave after helping Algeria win the Africa Cup of Nations.

Guedioura also counts Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Watford and Middlesbrough among his former clubs.

If a move does go through, he could find himself taking on the Reds when the 2021/22 campaign begins in August.
