Championship results: Brentford maintain promotion charge as Millwall keep play-off hopes alive

Brentford continued their bid for an automatic promotion place with a comfortable 3-1 win away at Derby that guaranteed a Championship play-off place at the minimum.

Said Benrahma's double added to Ollie Watkins' third-minute opener as Thomas Frank's men strolled to a seventh consecutive victory to move within three points of the top two.

West Brom remain in second place - three points above Brentford - having missed the chance to go top with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Blackburn at Ewood Park.

The Baggies looked to be on their way to victory in the 41st minute after Filip Krovinovic gave them the lead with a well-worked volley.

But a 63rd-minute equaliser from Joe Rothwell left Slaven Bilic's men - level on points with leaders Leeds, who travel to Swansea on Sunday - looking disconcertingly below at an in-form Bees side.

West Brom next face fourth-placed Fulham, who eased past Cardiff on Friday to move five points off the top.

Elsewhere on Saturday, play-off hopefuls Nottingham Forest and Preston shared the points in a 1-1 draw, while Bristol City gave themselves an outside chance of making the top six with a 3-1 win at Middlesbrough.

Charlton remain just a point clear of the bottom three after George Puscas' penalty condemned them to defeat at home to Reading, while Millwall kept their play-off hopes alive at struggling Hull thanks to an early winner from Ryan Leonard and QPR were soundly beaten 3-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday.

George Puscas' early penalty was enough to secure victory for Reading against Charlton at The Valley (PA)

Barnsley missed a real opportunity to gain some valuable points in the race to beat the drop, failing to capitalise on a red card for Danny Fox in a 0-0 draw against Wigan.

They were leapfrogged by Luton on Friday, with a 2-0 win against Huddersfield moving the Hatters just two points off safety.
