Championship pundit pinpoints trust issue behind Nottingham Forest transfers

Dean Ashton is sure that Chris Hughton will set up his team to get the best out of Glenn Murray after seeing the 37-year-old score twice on his first Nottingham Forest start.

Murray had helped Brighton win promotion to the Premier League under Hughton’s watch but had found game time hard to come by on loan at Watford earlier this season before his late transfer window switch to the City Ground.

He came off the bench in a 2-1 win at Coventry on Tuesday then scored twice in a 3-0 win at Wycombe yesterday, with Anthony Knockaert – another Hughton-Brighton old boy – getting the other.

Ashton, on EFL on Quest duty, said: “He’ll play a way to get the best out of Glenn Murray. He’s shown over the years at this level he’s got a fantastic strike rate.

“At Wycombe he showed all his qualities in winning a penalty, that first finish was class – and it doesn’t matter how they go in.

“Knockaert and (Gaetan) Bong are the players that Chris Hughton has worked with and feels like he needs to bring in players that he knows… because he probably feels like he can’t trust the others.”

The win moves Forest to 18th in the Championship, four points above the bottom three.
