Championship promotion and play-off permutations for Leeds United, West Brom and Brentford

An action-packed season that was disrupted by a three-month hiatus finally draws to a close in the Sky Bet Championship in just a few weeks' time.

While the coronavirus crisis means that fans will not be able to attend matches for the duration of the campaign, missing the opportunity to celebrate their team's achievements, there is still plenty to fight for.

At this stage of the season, every point is decisive and teams can begin to countdown exactly what they need to achieve their goals - as the picture at both ends of the table becomes clearer.

For many sides, a points target is now in place to seal their achievements and we have gathered the latest permutations across the Sky Bet Championship below.

Automatic promotion

West Brom now sit at the top of the table, but just two points separates them and Leeds in second, and the champions look set to be decided on the final weekend as the two sides go head-to-head over the course of the coming weeks though.

Their main priority will be to achieve a return to the Premier League though and they could be celebrating imminently - as they’re both just a few wins shy of securing their spot in the top-flight.

Leeds require 10 more points to bring an end to a 16-year wait for Premier League football at Elland Road and, if they embark on a winning streak, could be celebrating following their clash with Derby County on the penultimate matchday.

West Brom, meanwhile, require eight more points to get over the line and they could be celebrating on the same matchday following their match with Huddersfield - although this could be sooner if results elsewhere go in their favour.

Play-offs

78 points is the target for teams chasing a spot in the play-offs and a gap has started to emerge for three of the sides in the hunt, which gives them a points target to achieve in the remaining six matches.

Third-place Brentford are the closest to achieving their spot in the play-offs and require four more points to secure their spot, which could be celebrated in two weeks' time following their clash with Preston.

Meanwhile, Fulham are eight points away while Nottingham Forest are eleven points away from securing their spot in the play-offs and the situation for the trio could change if the teams below them drop points over the course of the coming weeks.

Remarkably, the competitiveness in the division means that the majority of sides could still mathematically sneak into the top-six but the real competitors will start to become clear in the near future.

Relegation

At the bottom of the table, the fight to avoid relegation is fierce and every point picked up is crucial. For that reason, there is no clear target yet for the teams fighting to avoid the drop and the figure for avoiding safety isn’t apparent.

Once again, this will change in the course of the coming weeks as teams pull away from the threat of the drop and secure their spot in the Championship for another season.
