Championship promotion odds: Watford favourites, Bristol City outsiders for new season

Bristol City are currently outsiders for promotion from the Championship, with Watford, Norwich and Brentford favourites to go up next year.

The Robins will have a new man in the dugout for the first game of the season for the first time in four years, with Dean Holden tasked with challenging for promotion.

It's set to be a busy few weeks leading up to the new season, with City currently stalling on dipping into the transfer market as Holden assesses what he needs to succeed.

And with his lack of experience and the current squad at City, the bookmakers haven't been kind when detailing the promotion odds.

Bristol City have been given odds of 8/1 to be promoted, whether automatically or through the play-offs, sitting behind the likes of Huddersfield and Middlesbrough, who were both embroiled in a relegation battle last season and both have new managers at the helm.

Newly relegated sides Watford, Norwich and Bournemouth have all been given favourable odds to get promoted at the first time of asking alongside Brentford, who lost in the play-off final to Fulham this season.

Spare a thought for newly promoted Wycombe and Rotherham, who have been given longer odds than Sheffeild Wednesday, despite the Owls starting the season with a 12 point deficit.

In total there are 13 teams with shorter odds than Bristol City, with Bet365 predicting a tough season for Dean Holden's side.
