Championship play-offs run-in: Who Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and rivals have left to play

Let's try and look on the bright side. Bristol City have been poor since the restart, losing their first two matches of a nine-game series, and with little sign for optimism.

Apart from the fact that despite this worrying plunge down the table, they are still only two wins from claiming a top-six place and with 21 points available, although difficult, reaching the play-offs remains possible.

With a visit to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday and Saturday's Severnside Derby against Cardiff - two teams also in the play-off mix - the Robins can dramatically change their fortunes over the next five days.

Brentford currently occupy third place and are five points behind second-placed West Brom. Behind the Bees, Nottingham Forest and Fulham are tied on the same points, while Cardiff City occupy sixth and the final spot in the play-offs at present.

Outside this, seventh to 12th in the table are separated by just two points, with the side at the head of this chasing pack Preston North End just a win behind the Bluebirds.

Alex Neil’s Lilywhites are ahead of Derby County on goal difference, while Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City are both on 56 points. Millwall and Bristol City are not far behind them and both on 55 points in a congested area of the table.

With the standings so tight as the home stretch of the campaign comes into view, here’s the remaining fixtures all teams in the mix for the play-offs have left.
