Championship play-offs could be set for major change amid EFL vote

English Football League clubs are set to vote on Thursday on a proposal to expand the Championship play-offs from four to six teams.
If the motion passes, play-off spots would extend to teams finishing between third and eighth in the league, rather than the current third to sixth.
The top two teams in the Championship would continue to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The proposal requires a majority vote from all EFL clubs, alongside a separate majority among Championship clubs, to be carried.
Thursday's decision will focus solely on the principle of expanding the play-offs, with the precise format to be determined at a later stage.
