Championship permutations - what can be settled this weekend

We are into the business end of the season in the Championship and the fate of some teams in the division has started to be identified.

There is still much to be decided though, with a three-way fight for the title and automatic promotion being witnessed, while a host of sides still harbour hopes of a top-six finish and a venture into the playoffs.

At the opposite end of the table, a number of teams still have work to do in order to avoid a drop down to League One - and relegation could be confirmed for one club this weekend.

Here, we have identified everything that could be clinched in the Championship this weekend.

Title race

Norwich City’s midweek draw opens the door for Leeds United to move to within just three points of the Canaries on Saturday with a win against Sheffield Wednesday, with Daniel Farke’s side not playing until Sunday.

A single point for the league leaders would be enough to confirm the battle for the title is a three-horse race, as West Brom would be unable to catch Norwich at the top.

It’s a similar story in the fight for automatic promotion, although the Baggies still have an outside chance for a few more weeks.

Playoff spot

Leeds United joined Norwich City in confirming their spot in the playoffs in midweek and Sheffield United could become the third side to secure a top-six spot with just a point from their clash with Millwall.

West Brom would be on the brink with a win against Preston accompanied by defeats for Middlesbrough and Derby County.

Relegation

Ipswich Town will become the first side to be relegated from the Championship this season if they fail to beat Birmingham City. A drop to League One would be confirmed regardless of that result if three of Rotherham, Wigan, Reading and Millwall win.
